DESIGNED IN HACKNEY

Dezeen today launches a new initiative to celebrate the incredible diversity of design talent in the east London borough of Hackney.

Designed in Hackney will showcase world-class architecture and design created in the borough, which is one of the five host boroughs for the London 2012 Olympic Games as well as being home to Dezeen’s offices.

Each day from tomorrow until the games this summer, Dezeen will publish buildings, interiors and objects that have been designed in Hackney, creating a unique guide to the borough’s rich and diverse design community.

'The Walmer Road' L E C T U R E - At the AA, March 7th 2012

The design of four houses around a courtyard addresses issues of light and privacy, questioning the circumstances of close-proximity housing. With this project now on site, the lecture will consider how the material detail supports the design strategies, examining on-site prototypes and ways in which workmanship strives to achieve particular qualities of space.

GRYMSDYKE FARM

Workshop, Lodgings and Garden

"The core interest at Grymsdyke Farm is to establish and explore the value of a living/working practice that involves an intimate engagement with materials and processes of making in a specific place, Lacey Green. Here, we engaged in a wide range of fabrication in design and also a series of site-specific installation. Our aim is to expose, articulate and demonstrate the essential connections between processes of design, making and place.

Work by community members Studio Superniche and Guan Lee

Community member Guan Lee will be presenting his PhD, 'Grymsdyke Farm, An Architectural Practice' on 6th March at the Bartlett School of Architecture
as part of the PhD Research Projects 2012 exhibition and conference.

Building the Revolution: Soviet Art and Architecture 1915-1935

This exhibition examines Russian avant-garde architecture made during a brief but intense period of design and construction that took place from c.1922 to 1935. Fired by the Constructivist art that emerged in Russia from c.1915, architects transformed this radical artistic language into three dimensions, creating structures whose innovative style embodied the energy and optimism of the new Soviet Socialist state.

At the Royal Academy of Arts from 29 October 2011—22 January 2012.
